A boy. His dad. And one very long summer in the Everglades, where both of them had to grow up a little.

Wes is eight. He knows the names of eleven kinds of heron, he refuses to wear a shirt with buttons, and he's pretty sure his dad is the loudest person in South Florida.

Danny is thirty-six. He is newly single, newly out to everyone who matters, and newly in charge of a whole summer with his son, which he keeps calling "our tour" because it sounds like a plan. It is not a plan. It's a canoe, a cooler, a terrible playlist, and a lot of pointing at things.

My Gay Dad is a comedy about the year a father stops performing for his kid and starts telling him the truth, and the kid who figures out, somewhere between the airboat and the hospital parking lot, that his dad has been brave the whole time.

A comic making his first leading turn as a dad who treats every gas station as a stage. Lenz also wrote the screenplay, most of it in a notes app between actual parenting.

Cast out of four hundred kids for the way he corrected the casting director about egrets. This is his first film. He has stated it will also be his last unless there is a sequel with a boat.
